Life Hacks: Make the Most out of High Quality Olive Oils

Earlier this month, I interviewed Glenn and Kimm from All of Oils and learned all about their high quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar products.  If you’re thinking of purchasing a high quality extra virgin olive oil, you may also be wondering the best way to use it!  Buying a high quality olive oil often means splurging, so there’s no doubt you’ll want to use it for dishes that will enhance and highlight its rich flavour.  I’ve collected some tips here to help you make the most of your high quality olive oil!

1.Keep it simple!

The best thing you can do when cooking with your olive oil is to use it in only simple dishes with few or no spices to distract from its flavour.  Try dressing pasta in just olive oil and parmesan cheese, or tossing steamed veggies in your high quality oil for a simple but delicious meal.

2. Start with salad

A fresh, simple salad is the best and easiest use of a high quality olive oil.  Instead of blending or whipping your olive oil together with other ingredients, simply drizzle the olive oil over your salad by itself so it keeps its flavour.  Add salt, pepper, lemon, and a bit of vinegar for the perfect refreshing salad.

3. Bread dip

The perfect crowd-pleasing appetizer, slice up a fresh baguette or focaccia loaf and dip it in your olive oil with a small amount of balsamic vinegar– delicious!

4. Think Mediterranean

Olive oil generally has its roots in the Mediterranean.  For great olive oil dishes, look up traditional recipes from this region.  Look for simple Turkish, Greek, or Italian recipes with olive oil as the focus.
