AROUND TOWN: Interview with All of Oils!
All of Oils is a retailer of high quality extra virgin olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and several other specialty products. With three locations across the Fraser Valley (including one in downtown Langley!), All of Oils offers a vast collection of oils and vinegars for all your cooking needs, including many that are flavour infused with things like fruit, herbs, and even black truffle! I got a chance to interview Glenn and Kimm from All of Oils to learn more about their business and their delicious products.
Who are you? (tell us a bit about yourself!)
We are the Fraser Valley’s largest retailer of the world’s highest quality Extra Virgin Olive Oils (EVOOs), Flavoured Olive Oils, Specialty Oils, Balsamic Vinegars and Flavoured Balsamic Vinegars. Many of our products are also certified Organic, Gluten Free and Kosher.
Our EVOOs are imported twice a year from each hemisphere, from select, multiple-award winning growers from all over the world. All our Balsamic Vinegars are made by one of the world’s best producers in the Traditional Solera Method in Modena, Italy. We take our EVOO very seriously and pride ourselves on making these exclusive products available to you and your family at very reasonable prices. We also have many gift packages for any occasion as well as custom, branded Corporate Gifting services.
What makes All of Oils special?
When you visit us, you will find a listing with every EVOO that tells you what olive the oil was made from, the country in which it was grown, the crush date, the chemical breakdown, an International Olive Oil Council-sanctioned Tasting Panel assessment and our own outline of its flavour characteristic. We have a very wide range of Infused Olive Oils and Infused Balsamic Vinegars as well.
We are not part of a franchised organization. We are an independent, family-owned and operated retail business who happens to have a supplier with the absolute highest quality product on the market.
What made you open a location in Langley?
While looking for places in the Fraser Valley to plant our second store, we happened to drive through Langley City. We fell in love with the small downtown feel of the place and it seemed to make sense to us right away. It wasn’t on the top of our list then but it certainly is now. We recommend it to anyone looking to expand or start out!
When people hear “oil”, they often think unhealthy. What do people need to know about olive oil in terms of healthy eating?
Olive Oil is likely the most studied food oil of them all. On our website we provide a wealth of information with respect to the health benefits of olive oil that have been scientifically proven.
Olive oil is very high in monounsaturated fats and contains a modest amount of vitamins E and K. True extra virgin olive oil is loaded with antioxidants, some of which have powerful health benefits.
What makes olive oil “extra virgin”?
Olive Oil classified as “Extra Virgin” must meet certain chemical and organoleptic parameters. There are many standards in the world for the current highest classification of “Extra Virgin” but we only carry the highest quality made in any given season.
You specialize in flavoured oils and vinegars- what are your most popular flavours, and what can people use them for?
Blood Orange Olive Oil & Honey-Ginger White Balsamic Vinegar. It’s great on salads or Asian stir-fry.
Garlic Olive Oil and Italian Herb Dark Balsamic Vinegar. It’s a great bread-dipping combo and makes a fantastic marinade or salad dressing.
I noticed you have some recipes on your website- which one is your favourite?
Kimm loves the Cauli-tater Soup (she did create it after all) and Glenn likes Glenn’s Blueberry Glaze (he did create that after all).
What should anyone know when shopping for high quality oils and vinegars?
Ask a lot of questions, especially directions to our stores. You need to make sure the FFA is .3 ppm or less and that the crush date is 12 months or less.
Tell us about your skin care products!
Our soap supplier, Soco Soaps, custom make a Castile Soap for us using one of our highest quality EVOOs sold in our stores. We also have Soco Soaps’ Charcoal Soap and Charcoal Face Scrub. We also carry an Organic Moroccan Argan Oil, as well as a variety of locally manufactured mud masks which all contain Olive Oil, Argan Oil and/or Apple Cider Vinegar.
